Top Tool Tops: Pliers
Safety
- Never use pliers for hammering. This could nick or crack them.
- Never use pliers as a spanner on nut or bolts. This could damage the plier and the fastening.
- Never use pliers to cut hardened wire unless they state they are specifically manufactured for this purpose.
- Never expose pliers to excessive heat.
- Always cut at right angles. Don’t rock or bend the wire against the cutting edges – this could damage the blade
- Make sure the plier you are using is sturdy enough for the job – light pliers can be damaged by trying to bend too stiff a wire
- Use eye protection when cutting wire.
- Check VDE tools regularly for breaks or cracks and do not use if insulation appears to be damaged.
- Keep tools clean and dry for longer life.
- A drop of oil in the hinge will lengthen lifespan and ease operation
